Active Reports is a great product. There is a slight learning curve if you are use to Crystal Reports.

For what it does, ActiveReports isn't too bad -- although it is missing a few niceties, most notably a crosstab report control or chart wizard -- it does a pretty good job of creating a nice looking report, that can either be launched from a Designer object from within your Visual Basic program/DLL, or from leaving the report files (*.rpx) outside of the program, and launching them at runtime (such as over the web). If launching the report from outside your program, it allows the programmer to use VBScript or JScript to call various functions. (Of course, the Report Designer can call any code from within your VB app.) Displaying subreports is a bit clunky, but at least the capability is there. It requires that the subreport object is instantiated from within the report, forcing you to call an outside class to do so. I'd love to see this be more automatic/easier in the future, and most importantly, a crosstab designer/control with a chart wizard. Then, I'd give it 5 stars! Otherwise, not too bad at all. I'd recommend this product to anyone that doesn't want to put up with Crystal anymore, and need a good general-purpose report writer.
